Grace of Women, Emotions in Chinese Characters | Jinan Hosts Chinese Character Cultural Event in Rennes, France, to Celebrate International Women's Day
2025-03-12
On March 8, International Women's Day, the Jinan International Communication Center, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute of Brittany in Rennes, hosted a themed event titled Women in Chinese Characters. Using Chinese characters as a medium, the event introduced characters containing the radical “女” (meaning "woman") to showcase the unique charm of Chinese character culture and the respect and admiration for women embedded within the language.
At the event, teachers from the Confucius Institute of Brittany introduced students to several Chinese characters featuring the "女" radical. They explored the origins, evolution, and meanings of these characters, intertwining their explanations with engaging historical stories and literary references to bring the cultural essence of Chinese characters to life. The instructors emphasized that Chinese characters are a treasure of Chinese culture, and those containing the "女" radical reflect the warmth and respect for women in Chinese tradition. The Confucius Institute of Brittany hopes that this event will spark students’ interest in Chinese characters and their cultural significance.
Characters such as 女 (woman), 好 (good), and 姝 (graceful) were displayed on the walls, where students carefully traced them stroke by stroke, discussing their structures and pronunciations. By the end of the event, students expressed that they had gained a deeper understanding of Chinese characters and culture, as well as an appreciation for the admiration for women embedded within the language.
This cultural exchange event, using Chinese characters as a bridge, not only extended festive greetings and respect to women worldwide but also aimed to introduce more international friends to the unique charm of Chinese culture. Moving forward, the Jinan International Communication Center will continue to use Chinese characters as a cultural link, promoting further cultural exchange activities to help the world better understand China and its rich heritage.
